Rhenz Abando bounced back with a career-best show as Anyang KGC held off Seoul SK Knights, 90-84, in the Korean Basketball League on Sunday, Nov. 27.
Not on his usual scoring ways in the last few games, including a lackluster five-point performance in their last game against the Goyang Carrot Jumpers, the high flying forward soared to his KBL career-high with 21 points on top of his five rebounds and five assists
He connived with former NBA player Omari Spellman who posted an all-around game of 21 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and one block.
Byeon Jun Hyeong added 19 points including the four pressure-packed free throws in the waning minutes to keep the Knights at bay.
Anyang actually had to buck a slow start as it trailed by as many as 12 points early in the second frame. Anyang, though, behind Spellman and Abando who fired 3-of-4 from deep came alive in the third frame when it took the driver seat, 64-59, heading into the final frame.
Anyang was able to build a comfortable double-digit spread, 86-76, but Seoul just refused to go down without a fight and rallied back within three following an 8-0 spurt.
That’s when Hyeong nailed four straight free throws to seal the deal for Anyang which improved to a 13-3 record atop the standings.
Jamil Woni and Sun Hyung Kim paced Seoul with 22 points apiece.
