The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses returned to the winning column after making quick work of the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors in the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament.
The Golden Tigresses bounced back from a previous loss with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 victory over the Lady Warriors at the Mall of Asia Arena, Wednesday.
UST has improved their record at 6-3 for third spot while keeping UE without a win in all of its nine outings.
Senior Eya Laure spearheaded UST with 17 big points on 15 attacks, a block and an ace while Imee Hernandez had eight including a pair of service aces.
“Malaking bagay para sa amin, syempre. Second round, first round, first loss, ngayon second round ganon din. Ang maganda naman, bumabalik kami agad after ng pagkatalo namin. Marami pa kaming dapat ayusin, especially now na tumataas yung level ng labanan,” head coach Kungfu Reyes said.
Down 10-13 in the third, Laure sparked a short run to equalize the game at 14, capped by Ren Penafiel’s dump ball.
UST finally had the taste of the lead after an error by KC Cepada, 17-16, and from there it never looked back as quick of Janna Torres made it a 21-16 gap.
Cepada would halt the run of the Tigresses but it was their last point of the game as Penafiel sparked a 4-0 closeout of the set.
Cepada led the Lady Warriors with 12 while Ja Lana tallied 10 points.
