NU bolsters semis bid with sweep of Adamson

National University blanked Adamson, 26-24, 25-16, 25-22, to boost its semifinals bid in the second round of the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday, April 12, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs tied the Lady Falcons and the UST Golden Tigresses in second place with similar records of 7-3.

Last season’s Rookie-MVP Bella Belen shone for NU with 20 points off 18 attacks and two blocks laced by 11 receptions.

Alyssa Solomon and Vange Alinsug chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

With NU ahead 23-19 late in the third, Kate Santiago tallied back-to-back hits before Louie Romero’s service ace that pulled Adamson within one.

However, before the Lady Falcons could stage a full comeback, Belen came through with a crosscourt kill followed by an off-the-block hit to seal the win.

Adamson’s Trisha Tubu and Santiago were held to only nine and six points, respectively.
