Tina Salak steps down as FEU head coach, set to migrate to US

Tina Salak has abruptly ended her tenure as the head tactician of the Far Eastern University women’s volleyball team, the school announced on its official Facebook page on Friday, June 16.

The former Lady Tamaraw and national team setter turned coach is set to migrate to the United States following an exciting career opportunity.

“FEU Women's Volleyball Team Head Coach Tina Salak is stepping down from her position. Coach Tina will soon migrate to the USA as her immigrant visa application recently got approved,” the post wrote.

Salak debuted with FEU in UAAP Season 85 as the tournament’s first female coach.

In her brief stint with the Lady Tamaraws, Salak and the team just narrowly missed out on the Final Four and wound up in fifth place in the standings, which was a notable improvement from their bottom place finish a season prior.

With the 46-year-old’s departure from the team, assistant Manolo Refugia will be calling the shots for the FEU squad in the offseason tournament and for the time being.

“Coach Manolo Refugia will serve as the interim head coach of the team in the V-League Collegiate Challenge scheduled this July. Let's all wish the best for Coach Tina as she moves on to this new phase of her life,” the statement added.
