The Philippine women’s volleyball team suffered its third defeat in the group stage of the 2023 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship, with Hong Kong sweeping them 25-21, 25-21, 25-11 on Friday afternoon in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The Jorge Edson Souza de Brito-led Philippine team surged to an 8-4 start in the first set, but Hong Kong turned things around for a 21-18 lead before taking the set at 25-21.

Team Philippines managed to keep in step with Hong Kong in the second frame as they cut the deficit to 5-8, but the latter’s firepower was too much to take a 2-0 set advantage.

With momentum on their side, Hong Kong did not waste time, putting away the Philippines with a 12-5 start en route to their first win in the tournament.

Both Team Philippines and Hong Kong were relegated to the classification round, where they will face Iran.
