The Chery Tiggo Crossovers bucked slow starts in every frame to start their stint in the second All-Filipino Conference of the PVL on a good note.
Chery Tiggo showed some nerves in their opening game but still managed to sweep the Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday.
The Crossovers kept the Foxies winless in the league, spanning six games, since joining the Invitational Conference several months ago.
Sisters EJ and Eya Laure combined for 27 points to pace Chery Tiggo in its first game victory. But it was Cess Robles who played a crucial part in the third-set comeback of the Crossovers, pouring nine of her 10 points in the said frame.
The team also played without their star player in Mylene Paat as well as Alina Bicar, and Seth Rodriguez.
“Okay yung set namin nung 1 and 2, maganda. I think medyo slow start kami nung third but because of their determination, and nagkakaroon na rin kami ng jelling, naitawid namin yung third set. Thank you dun sa mga players namin na nag-push,” head coach Aaron Velez said.
After taking a 2-0 lead, Crossovers found themselves in a huge 9-17 hole in the third after Trisha Tubu’s crosscourt spike.
Robles sparked a fiery 8-0 spurt in the ensuing plays, which also featured an ace and a backrow attack of Eya Laure, to equalize the game at 18.
The Foxies would deny Chery Tiggo a lead change as Jade Gentapa and Rizza Cruz scored back-to-back points for a 21-19 separation.
Down 20-22, Chery Tiggo dropped a 5-0 closeout with Imee Hernandez unleashing two spikes before EJ ended the game with an off-the-block kill.
Tubu tallied 15 points while Gentapa added 10 for Farm Fresh, who has yet to win a game in the PVL.
