Phoenix vs. Meralco, Magnolia vs. TNT kick off PBA quarterfinals

The quarterfinal cast is finally complete in the PBA 48th Season Commissioner’s Cup, and teams have already determined their opponent for the postseason.

TNT clinched the last ticket to the quarterfinals on Sunday after defeating Phoenix Super LPG, 116-96, taking the No. 8 position in the first round with a 5-6 win-loss slate.

But waiting for them in the next phase is top-seed Magnolia Chicken Timpaldos, which finished the elimination with a 9-2 slate.

Like Magnolia, the other twice-to-beat teams have already determined their opponents following the result of Sunday’s game.

With Phoenix losing on Sunday, San Miguel has taken the No. 2 seed in the quarterfinals where it will face No. 7 Rain or Shine in a battle of the two hottest teams in the league at the close of the elimination round.

The Beermen won five straight games entering the playoffs, but the Elasto Painters have the better winning streak with six.

Barangay Ginebra also moved up the rankings following the result of Sunday’s game, occupied the No. 3 spot, arranging a match-up against No. 6 NorthPort.

Even with the loss, Phoenix Super LPG still has a twice-to-beat edge but slipped to No. 4, and will go up against No. 5 Meralco in the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals begin on Wednesday with Phoenix going up against Meralco at 4 p.m., and Magnolia taking on TNT at 8 p.m. at the Philsports Arena.

On Friday, Rain or Shine and San Miguel square off at 4 p.m., and NorthPort battles Ginebra at 8 p.m. at the Philsports Arena.
