Angel Canino doing fine amid speculations on playing status

Amid speculations on social media over Angel Canino’s playing status for the rest of UAAP Season 86, her father Rodel assured the reigning women’s volleyball MVP is fine but declined to go into detail.

He gave the assurance that the Lady Spikers’ leading scorer is ‘doing fine,’ but left La Salle to release a statement on Canino's health status.

“Waiting lang (kami) sa statement ng La Salle. Ayoko munang magbigay ng statement,” said the Canino patriarch.
“Para sa peace of mind na rin siguro, Angel (Canino) is doing fine.”

Over the day, there were posts on social media hinting of an injury that put to question Canino's availability for the rest of the season.

In eight elimination round matches played to date, Canino averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 excellent receptions and 4.8 excellent digs as the defending champions’ top attacking ace in the outside hitter position alongside the likes of Alleiah Malaluan and Maicah Larroza.

Her best scoring performance came in a match no less than the first round of La Salle’s rivalry duel with Ateneo this season where she tallied 28 points, eight digs and three receptions.

The Lady Spikers are in solo second place with a 7-1 (win-loss) record before taking on cellar-dwelling University of the Philippines on Thursday as second round action continues after the week-long Holy Week break.
