Far Eastern University’s hopes of entering the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament Final Four got a boost after they swept Adamson University.
The Lady Tamaraws defeated the Lady Falcons, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23, on Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, and this victory propelled them to 6-4 in the league standings.
"Syempre sa kinalalagyan namin ngayon, parang mas gigil pa kami na mas makamit yung goal namin na yun nga, pumasok sa Final Four, at mabawian yung mga natalo kami nung first round," said head coach Nols Refugia after the game.
Faida Bakanke starred for the Moratya-based squad yet again, putting up 13 points that came from 11 attacks and two blocks, Chen Tagaod delivered 13 markers, seven receptions, and four digs, while Jean Asis followed with 10 points.
"For me, parang mas naging inspiration samin na bumawi talaga kasi nga, may goal kami — Final Four. So hindi dapat namin bitawan yung goal namin na yun and talagang di lang doble, tripleng trabaho talaga para mas makuha namin," Tagaod said, sharing her coach's sentiments.
"Then siguro nakakuha kasi ng [momentum mula sa] panalo dun sa Ateneo bago sa Adamson, so nadala namin yung momentum namin ngayon sa Adamson," she added.
Bakanke led the charge for her team and put up the finishing touches as she scored two crucial points to put them ahead by two, 23-21, just before the Lady Falcons fired one last point to get as close as one.
Gerz Petallo, however, spoiled the party for Adamson after she scored on a drop to end the game.
On the other hand, Red Bascon top-scored for AdU and put up 14 points, and following her was Barbie Jamili who finished with 11 points, seven digs, and six receptions.
The Lady Falcons fell to 2-8 in the team standings
FEU will face off against University of Sto. Tomas on Saturday, 4 PM, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila, while the Soaring Falcons will be looking to bounce back when they go up against the University of the Philippines on the same day and venue at 2 PM.
