Alas Pilipinas drops SEA V.League Leg 2 opener against powerhouse Thailand

It's just one of those days for Alas Women.

Alas Pilipinas were unable to carry the winning momentum from their bronze medal finish the last time around, bowing to host Thailand, 18-25, 23-25, 16-25, in their opening match at the 2024 SEA V.League - Leg 2 on Friday, August 9 (PH Time).

The Nationals suffered the same fate against their regional rivals just like in the opening leg, losing in a straight-set fashion as the six-time champions were simply too much to handle in front of their home crowd.

Thailand were in firm control in the final set, racing to a 9-3 lead early and never looked back for a winning start.

Earlier, Alas Women hung tight in the second set, saving two set points before a Chatchu-on Moksri off-the-block dashed their comeback hopes.

Jema Galanza, the newest addition to the squad in this particular leg, saw action late in the opening set but played limited minutes.

Cherry Nunag also made her first appearance since the FIVB Challenger’s Cup and checked in midway through the second set.

Alas Pilpinas will continue their campaign against powerhouse Vietnam tomorrow, August 10, at 4:00 p.m. (PH time).
