It's official: LA Tenorio takes over as Magnolia head coach

LA Tenorio is fully transitioning into coaching as he will soon call the shots for Magnolia in the PBA.

San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua on Monday, July 28, confirmed that Tenorio is the Hotshots’ new head coach, replacing Chito Victolero at the helm.

Chua said SMC management agreed to give the job to Tenorio after he guided Gilas Pilipinas Youth the gold medal in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers in May.

“This was planned a month or a week ago. I joked LA after they won the gold in SEABA, I told him he was ready,” Chua told reporters before Gilas Pilipinas’ tuneup game against the Macau Black Bears at the Araneta Coliseum. “Everybody knows he is a very intelligent guy, very smart, team leader.”

“We’re not expecting that much, LA is just new. But for sure, he’ll be good as a head coach.”

As Tenorio joins Magnolia, he ends a stellar 12-season stint with Barangay Ginebra, which saw him help the franchise win seven championships, three of which he got named Finals MVP for.

Tenorio won a total of eight titles and four Finals MVP plums throughout his 18-season playing career, which included stints with San Miguel and Alaska.
