THE Meralco Bolts rocked in their new jerseys when they reported for duty in the PBA Media Day presented by Arena Plus Friday.
The Bolts said they decided to go for a new look, sporting a refreshed logo and playing uniforms featuring a black-dominated hue with blue on the trimmings and numbers as well as orange on the surnames, in celebration of their 15th year in the league.
"It's definitely a new look for us," Meralco star Chris Newsome said of their latest design, which replaced the blue ones that they used the past few seasons and the retro orange on special occasions.
"We never have donned black jerseys and you can tell that they're really lightening things up with the blue. And me being a Blue Eagle (Ateneo alumnus), it's fitting, I think it's bagay for me to have blue and a little bit of orange," he added.
In a statement, the Bolts said the new logo serves as a "symbol to recharge, reenergize, and recommit to their team identity that is built on hard work, togetherness, fighting spirit, sportsmanship, and the pursuit of excellence."
The team will debut the new uniform designs in the coming PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup as well as the East Asia Super League.
"I just like the look overall, a lot of people say it kinda reminds them of OKC (Thunder) and I don't mind getting that comparison 'coz they won the NBA championship last year so maybe that might go the way for us this year," said Newsome.
The Bolts will be on a mission to regain the All-Filipino title that they won in Season 48.
They fell short in their repeat bid the previous season, bowing out in the quarterfinals at the hands of twice-to-beat top seed and eventual winner San Miguel Beer.
