Regine Diego is new NU head coach

The National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs have a new tactician at the helm.

Regine Diego has reportedly stepped in as head coach of the Lady Bulldogs, replacing Sherwin Meneses after just one year of head coaching stint.

Nerissa Meneses, wife of coach Sherwin, clarified on Wednesday that his one-year contract had already concluded and there were no problems whatsoever with the school's management, as she shared the Inquirer's story on the development.

"Just to set the record straight — He only signed a one-year contract with NU, which has now concluded. There is no issue or conflict with the NU management—he holds the institution and its leadership in the highest regard," she said in a Facebook post.

Meneses leaves NU with a title, guiding the storied collegiate volleyball squad to a second straight title in Season 87 and sending off UAAP stars Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon on a triumphant note.

For her part, Diego had already attended the press conference of the 2025 Shakey’s Super League Pre-season Unity Cup on Wednesday in Manila, with Meneses absent.

NU will participate in the preseason tilt organized by the pizza parlor, serving as Diego's first test as Lady Bulldogs head coach.

Diego returns to collegiate volleyball after the disbandment of Premier Volleyball League (PVL) team F2 Logistics in December 2023.
