Alas Pilipinas forming pool of 27 players for AVC Cup

The Alas Pilipinas pool for the 2026 AVC Women’s Cup slated June 6 to 14 in Candon, Ilocos Sur will have a maximum of 27 players, including 14 from the Premier Volleyball League.

A source yesterday told The STAR that they sent the invitations a few days ago and responses should come anytime this week, or less than two months before the Candon meet.

“The rest will come from the UAAP,” said the same insider.

Alas, ranked 46th in the FIVB rankings and mentored by Thai Tai Bundit, was drawn in Pool A alongside No. 37 Chinese Taipei, No. 40 South Korea, Kyrgyzstan (60th), Australia (73rd) and Uzbekistan (87th) during Friday’s ceremony done at the Diamond Hotel.

Pool B will comprise No. 28 Vietnam, No. 35 Kazakhstan, Iran (47th), Indonesia (70th), Hong Kong (81st) and Lebanon (unranked).

Interestingly, Thea Gagate of ZUS Coffee and Leila Cruz of Capital1 may very well be in the pool after both attended the event.

PNVF chief Tonyboy Liao confirmed Alas will start its training and preparation next week.

“Coach Tai himself chose the players from the universities and the PVL,” he said.
