Canino, Laput, Provido beg off from Alas Pilipinas

Three De La Salle University Lady Spikers standouts have withdrawn from Alas Pilipinas duties ahead of the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup, further trimming the national team pool in the lead-up to the regional tournament.

Lady Spikers players Angel Canino, Shevana Laput, and Amie Provido will not join the national squad as they focus on recovery following their campaign in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament.

Canino confirmed the decision through an Instagram story posted Thursday night.

“To be invited to the National Team training pool is a privilege I never take for granted, and playing for the Philippine flag is the highest honor,” Canino said.

The 22-year-old hitter explained that the physical demands of the recently concluded collegiate season prompted the trio to temporarily step away from national team responsibilities.

“However, coming off the high intensity of UAAP Season 88, Amie, Shevana, and I have decided to prioritize our physical recovery. We first need to let our bodies heal and reset so that we can give our best to the game,” she said.

Canino also disclosed that the Philippine National Volleyball Federation had already been informed of their decision to skip the tournament.

“We’ve communicated this to the PNVF and while we won’t be on the court this time, our hearts are with the team as they compete in the AVC Women’s Cup.”

The withdrawal of the three DLSU players adds to the list of athletes unavailable for Alas Pilipinas as preparations continue for the continental meet.
