The University of the East made history as the first team to score a win in the Shakey's Super League after surviving a five-set early instant classic against Mapua, 31-33, 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12, on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The match quickly got the making of a tight one as it was already a back-and-forth affair in the opening set even as both teams extended the period past the 30-point mark, eventually ending in favor of the team from Intramuros.
UE eventually fought back, taking the second and third sets before falling short to close the match in the fourth.
