Ateneo's Kymani Ladi UAAP debut highlights

Expectations are high for Fil-Am forward Kymani Ladi to deliver in his first and only year with the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles this UAAP Season 88 men's basketball tournament.

Ladi played four years already in the United States with Merritt College at the California Community College Athletic Association, posting 14.9 points and 7.7 rebounds last year, after all.

That and he's held his own against the competition in the preseason.

At least for his UAAP debut on Saturday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion, Ladi lived up to his lofty billing as he pumped 26 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.

His performance keyed the Blue Eagles' 86-83 overtime win over the FEU Tamaraws.

"I love the atmosphere here," said the 25-year-old Ladi, who stands at 6-foot-8.

"It's new but it's also exciting for me because I've always wanted to play on a stage like this. Now I got an opportunity, I'm taking it. It's great to play in this atmosphere."

Ladi's performance peaked in the final minute of the contest where he scored on a layup and drilled a trey to give Ateneo a 5-point, 85-80 cushion and eventually the win.

"The competition is great. It really gave me a test of what I can really do and what I can do for the team. I try to do as best as I can," said Ladi.
